Cocteau Twins-Music, Art, Chocolate

Updated on January 31, 2014

Cocteau Twins and Chocolate.. Life is GOOD!

I LOVE the Cocteau Twins. I admit thought that you need to be in the right mood for them.. they can be a bit dark. I listen to them a lot when I paint and sculpt and they seem to add that dimension of the ethereal that I want while doing art. I am not always in that mood and listen to other music as well, even dare I admit to it, some country and western.. yikes! The Cocteau Twins bring you to a world of free space.. and you almost feel as if you are floating.. so divine!

I came across an old 'tape cassette' in a box the other day, can you believe it? A TAPE! Wow, I thought, how fantastic to find that tape! I remembered hours and hours of painting art to the music of Cocteau Twins and being taken away by their amazing style. Listen to some of the YouTubes below and tell me you don't think the same!

Like all good goddess art women, I fill my art studio with the Cocteau Twins music and once in awhile treat myself to some chocolate as well to create the perfect day! Art, good music and chocolate, what more could I ask for? Smile, well maybe a few things but you get the picture!

Start off with some CHOCOLATE!

To me a happy day equals good music and chocolate. Here below are some suggestions.

About them...

Background information

Origin Grangemouth, Scotland

Years active 1979 - 1997

Label(s) 4AD, Capitol, Fontana, Bella Union

Former members

Elizabeth Fraser

Robin Guthrie

Simon Raymonde

Will Heggie

Early years

Robin Guthrie (guitar) and Will Heggie (bass), both from Grangemouth, Scotland, formed the band in 1979. At a local disco, Nash, they met Elizabeth Fraser, who would eventually provide vocals.

The band's influences at the time included Joy Division, The Birthday Party, Sex Pistols and Siouxsie & The Banshees. The band were named after the song "The Cocteau Twins" by fellow Scotsmen 'Johnny and the Self-Abusers' (who later renamed themselves Simple Minds; the song "The Cocteau Twins" was also re-penned as "No Cure"). Their debut recording, Garlands (released by 4AD Records in 1982), was an instant success, as was the subsequent Lullabies EP. They themselves remain influential to aspiring post-punk acts today.

Although the entire band was praised for their performances, Fraser received the most attention. At times barely decipherable, Fraser seemed to veer into glossolalia and mouth music. Allmusic reviewer Ned Raggett writes that "part of her appeal is how she can make hard-to-interpret lyrics so emotionally gripping."

Chocolate and Other Yummy Food Friends - Where Did They Originate?

Music, art and chocolate.. YAY!

~~*~~

Where does chocolate come from

and considering them

I'd like to know too

where do strawberries originate?

Chocolate

native to the lowlands

tropical seed plans

South America

Mexico

boy are they lucky

for the crops they grow!

And strawberries

not a fruit

tis a 'false fruit'

you mean strawberries

lie?

Ohh giggle, giggle on top of a silly sigh.

First bred in Europe

wasn't 'that' wise!

Yes

where do strawberries grow

anywhere now

I suppose.

Another thought about them

do they grow in rows?

No silly

strawberries

do not hesitate on single bit

they just reach out their tentacles

or runners

reach out to the ground

and go for it.

So there we have it

two of my spontaneous demands

chocolate for my ice cream

and strawberries for jam.

Ain't recipes for culinary pleasure

grand?

So

where did apples originate?

pomaceous fruit

first came from Central Asia

so all I can think to say about that?

Is THANK YOU!

Washington state

they love their apples

no debate

they have majored in apples

and even host

apple days.

Now where do grapes come from?

I need champagne for my strawberries

and chocolate

ahh the thought of it

is just awesome.

Ancient Egyptians

those are the ones

who cultivated grapes

first rate.

So one last question

for my fruit salad

where are bananas grown?

Yeah where did that fruit

first call home?

Southeast Asia

again

hey now

those are very wise guys

and a fruit lovers friend!

Chocolate,strawberries

apples

bananas

culinary friends

for you

and for me.

Tee he!

Haunting Music Sparks Creativity

The music of the Cocteau Twins can be mood altering. It is reflective and someone on the dark side. We all go there from time to time. I think that artists are prone to it... at least I know that I am. I wrote this poem below while in one of those dark moods.

~~*~~

"I Wept For Hours But I Will Always Hold Sacred Stars and the Box Left Out Along the Path"

I wept for hours

after I left your forest.

All I could think about

was the box you left for me.

The ribbons were gone

but the rest was all

ever so neatly

intact.

Seeing it again

after so much time

reflections of the past

resurfaced.

Your face

shined through.

I remembered our laughter together

and you know

all I could do

after remembering

was to cry.

I missed it so

that kind of laughter

with you.

You always said

that who you really are

is what you do

when you are truly alone.

I guess maybe you were right.

But I confess

after all this time

alone only reminds me

of home.

I hear laughter in the forest still

when I close my eyes

and shut out all the noises

and thoughts of todays rhythm

those nagging now signs.

If I set my heart to it

I can most brilliantly

smell the pines

and almost see

blue butterflies.

Sometimes

at just around midnight

I awake

and anticipate

a gathering of stars

elusive treasures

seen only

when the sky is truly dark.

And I remember that night

that you showed them to me

the stars

within the dark.

I've been told other stories

since I last listened to yours

and I must tell you

the most remarkable thing

is that

inside each conclusion

everything does in fact

come together

and endings do somehow

bring about

serenity.

Miracles and life

continue on.

And even though

I will never see you again

I wish you all the treasures

still to be found

in the box

left out

by me

along a forests path.

This Mortal Coil - Song to the Siren "Cocteau Twins"

Lyrics to "Song to the Siren" by This Mortal Coil

NOTE: THIS SONG WAS ORIGINALLY WRITTEN BY TIM BUCKLEY.

On the floating, shapeless oceans

I did all my best to smile

til your singing eyes and fingers

drew me loving into your eyes.

And you sang "Sail to me, sail to me;

Let me enfold you."

Here I am, here I am waiting to hold you.

Did I dream you dreamed about me?

Were you here when I was full sail?

Now my foolish boat is leaning, broken love lost on your rocks.

For you sang, "Touch me not, touch me not, come back tomorrow."

Oh my heart, oh my heart shies from the sorrow.

I'm as puzzled as a newborn child.

I'm as riddled as the tide.

Should I stand amid the breakers?

Or shall I lie with death my bride?

Hear me sing: "Swim to me, swim to me, let me enfold you."

"Here I am. Here I am, waiting to hold you."
