Pixie Faires| Legends of Mermaids and Myths|Tiny Angels|Art Trading Cards|KathysArt

Updated on April 29, 2014

Pixie Fairies| Fairies in Art|Art Trading Cards-ATC| Kathy's Art

Legends of mermaids, whimsical angels, pixie fairies, oh those tiny angels light the pathway for my art trading cards and/or ACEO's.

This lens is about art trading cards, mine and others.

I confess! I am not doing them anymore... no, I tried my hand at them and found them to be too tedious for me. Instead I tip my hat to all those who use their talent to produce these small images. The pics are my cards, but I have put them away in a little box to consider later. Who knows... maybe I will decide to do them again, open that box and consider it all again, but for now I appreciate the endeavors of others.

Enchanted fairies- sing songs and when I close my eyes to listen I am inspired.

Miniature original or limited edition art works. Miniatures collectable art is so fun! Little tiny artworks that are 2.5x3.5 inch in size commonly known as ACEO's, which stands for Art Cards, Editions and Originals.

So yes, this lens will feature my personal ACEO's in jpegs, but as I mentioned I decided not to sell them, not on Ebay or Etsy. I need to concentrate of my paintings for my gallery in New York (yay). I have posted other peoples art trading cards that are on Ebay.. share the love right? Smile.

I am painting bigger stuff for my New York Rep rep and gallery, Monkdogz Urban Art, so that will come when I get a breather.. ha! what is that?!

I will also feature gifts, movies, poems and stories about fairies, mermaids, goddess art, exotic women, whimsical angels and a fantasy world to dream in. I am really into the circus, masks and stuff so that influence will be found here as well.

A note about the little paintings: I have recently repainted the ACEO's that I have posted here. I made them brighter and better! They are all sprinkled with a bit of glittering Hawaiian Fairy dust so as soon as I get them photographed again I will post them. I would like to share with you that, that is how creativity is, one idea springs onto another. We create something as artists and hopefully grow with each one. Ahh such a lovely gift that we can give back to our own selves, the gift of seeing more, feeling more and creating what we have come to know as our vision.

TURN ON THE MUSIC ABOVE...

as you enjoy my lens!

KATHY NOTE:

To me? Joni Mitchell's "Blue" is her best cd.. ever.

Joni Mitchell's original version of "Carey" is also on this cd.

~~*~~

Here are the lyrics to Joni Mitchell's great song:

The wind is in from Africa

Last night I couldn't sleep

Oh, you know it sure is hard to leave here Carey

But its really not my home

My fingernails are filthy, I got beach tar on my feet

And I miss my clean white linen and my fancy French cologne

Oh Carey get out your cane

And Ill put on some silver

Oh you're a mean old daddy, but I like you fine

Come on down to the Mermaid Cafe and I will buy you a bottle of wine

And well laugh and toast to nothing and smash our empty glasses down

Lets have a round for these freaks and these soldiers

A round for these friends of mine

Lets have another round for the bright red devil

Who keeps me in this tourist town

Come on, Carey, get out your cane

Ill put on some silver

Oh you're a mean old daddy, but I like you

Maybe Ill go to Amsterdam

Or maybe Ill go to roam

And rent me a grand piano and put some flowers round my room

But lets not talk about fare-thee-wells now

The night is a starry dome.

And they're playin' that scratchy rock and roll

Beneath the Matalla moon

Come on, Carey, get out your cane

And Ill put on some silver

You're a mean old daddy, but I like you

The wind is in from Africa

Last night I couldn't sleep

Oh, you know it sure is hard to leave here

But, its really not my home

Maybe its been too long a time

Since I was scramblin' down in the street

Now they got me used to that clean white linen

And that fancy French cologne

Oh Carey, get out your cane

Ill put on my finest silver

Well go to the Mermaid Cafe

Have fun tonight

I said, oh, you're a mean old daddy, but you're out of sight.

Inspiration!

My beautiful sister Karyl gave me a dish of little pom pom characters once. Simple little creatures that she had fun making and I adored receiving. I asked her what they were and she said, "Friends!" So cute to make little creatures out of hardly anything at all.

Creativity is a wonderful friend just waiting for us all to play.

Learn more about ACEO's and ATC's and begin your own fantasy as well as collect others like mine.

Smile.

Sometimes you can have TONS of fun by just playing!

No big deal.. just PLAY! Ya know?

Here are some books to help you set the mood and give you some ideas of how to play and make your own Art Trading Cards.

It doesn't have to be great... but

it does need to be fun.

Creativity will be your best friend when given half the chance.

Collectible Spun Glass Figurines and a Fantasy Fairy of the Moon

I write poetry as well as paint and sculpt

Collectible Spun Glass Figurines

set out on the table

picking up a gentle light

stars look on

past the dark

and see their shadows.

The moon never whispers at midnight anymore.

I guess the end has found its way

to being somewhat happy.

Long past the eerie decision

when a dragons angel ran away

and mermaids descended into the sea.

I mark my place.

I hold my compass nearby.

Despite my marooned friend's mistakes

He still claims to have found the answer

and vows to chant its tune

he'll ring its sound forever.

Don't ever trust a tailor

to darn your mending heart

left to his own wisdom

he will post your wings on coasters

neath a glass he meant to wash

and put away on a dusty shelf.

There is an honesty in lying

and a joke beyond the smoke

Yet there are no longer monsters in the closet

to decipher glorious roars.

There is a tail behind the dog

pretending not to wag

and I say

gentleness caresses the moons adventures

and I will climb that restless gift

though tattered from past decisions.

Spaces of acknowledgment

that must be deeply felt

a journey that reaches to the other side.

A center for compassion

for our own endeavors

and indeed

our own encumbered selves.

About the painting:

The image is from my "ke ala o Pele" series, which is an Hawaiian series. The woman stands before a lava rock.. Pele, goddess of the volcano Kileaua, wrapped her lava flow around the trees that stood in Lava Tree Park, which is on the Big Island/Hilo side in Pahoa.

Chinese Ballet Circus - Dance in your heart...

~*~

This is soo touching.

I must confess that when I watched it tears rolled down my face.

I think that artists especially need to tap into things like this. It motivates a person to seek out beauty. After I watch something like this or the movie I mentioned somewhere above, "Camile Claudel" I am overwhelmed with the feeling that I MUST get those feelings onto canvas or clay beneath my fingers.

Dance in your heart.

"Two Little Girls Unravel" - modern talking videos

~*~

Modern talking videos are everywhere today. We adore them on You Tube and others sites as they continue to spring forth with magic and delight.

If you read the explanation from the parent who taped this you will understand the little girls problem as they try to dance before their audience.

OH! It is so cute!

I posted this as a contrast to the YouTube above. It reminds us that 'everything' for 'every single person' has a 'beginning'.

Soo be gentle with yourself as you learn new things, enjoy the process. Also... once you do master something? Keep it in your heart and memory your baby step to get to where you are. Be patient with those who ask questions of you and try to learn what you have already mastered.

Stay humble and be generous with your knowledge, it can only make for a better world.

~~*~~

See yourself in this little YouTube... just beginning and realizing flight, coming across obstacles but continuing on with the dance none the less.

We are so fortunate to have modern talking videos that let us have a glimpse of two little girls in pink tutus who are just beginning to learn the dance of ballet and life. We are just like them really. Remind yourself to laugh at your failures because they are no different really from these little girls in your beginnings.

Very dear this adventure of life.

"Lost At Sea"

The painting below is from my series called, "Lost at Sea", I created a story booklet (along with 6 others paintings) re-telling the Greek myth, Ceyx & Alcyone It is a 48x60 oil on canvas.

What Have They Done To The Rain?

I have been watching this You Tube this morning.. "What Have They Done To The Rain?" by The Searchers, written by Malvina Reynolds. It was first written as part of a campaign to stop aboveground nuclear testing.. not war at all but it was taken on by many other causes and seems most appropriate for the war in Iraq or the ignorance of people who ignore global warming. Soo this painting of mine.. painted a long time ago, even under another name, lends to the feeling I am having today. It is called "Lost at Sea" because I think many of us are.

The song: is below.

The Lyrics:

Just a little rain falling all around,

The grass lifts its head to the heavenly sound,

Just a little rain, just a little rain,

What have they done to the rain?

Just a little boy standing in the rain,

The gentle rain that falls for years.

And the grass is gone,

The boy disappears,

And rain keeps falling like helpless tears,

And what have they done to the rain?

Just a little breeze out of the sky,

The leaves pat their hands as the breeze blows by,

Just a little breeze with some smoke in its eye,

What have they done to the rain?

Just a little boy standing in the rain,

The gentle rain that falls for years.

And the grass is gone,

The boy disappears,

And rain keeps falling like helpless tears,

And what have they done to the rain?

The little image is of my painting, "Have You Ever Read Anything So Beautiful?" 24x30 oil on canvas from my "Victorian Series"

What Have They Done To the Rain?

~~*~~

The sound on this is not great but ohhh those voices, and oh my goodness the message and sentiment no matter what you choose to apply it to. I apply it to Vietnam and Agents Orange, White and Blue... because I am affected by it. I found my soldier after 27 years due to Vietnam and the follies of a young girl. When I found my soldier again he was afflicted with the results of a Agent Orange. He throws up every day. My painting "Lost at Sea" was done before I found him again through a miracle of circumstances. I always missed him.

Sea Goddesses- Legends of Mermaids- Dolphins on Kauai Shorelines

Sea Goddesses- Legends of Mermaids- Dolphins on Kauai Shorelines of Hanalei Bay

I heard there were myths to follow

legends of mermaids

fantasy art warrior women

sirens of the sea.

Out on the water

trickles of light

dancing

on the shores of Kauai

a mermaids tale indeed.

"I have measured every star", she said

Sea goddess of Kauai.

"How do I find the time?

I have taken every dream

and colored them with crayons

sprinkled them with fairy dust

and framed them in seashells."

I sit and think of her often.

I have captured spectacular moments

Water spirit legends

that simply could not escape.

I held them close

heard their messages

made pencil drawings of dragons

fire dragons to save me.

I drew dolphins on the sand

of the ones I've know for years.

Dolphins to take me anywhere

always within reach.

Water spirit legends

tales of mermaids

dragons of the sea

dolphins sharing magic

alive.

I wept for knowledge and its sake

then wrapped all my tokens

my dragon drawings

pieces of sand

glorious wonders

cradled my package

covered in silk

and tied with ti leaves.

I waited for the time to be right

the moon full

and made promises to night.

Legends of mermaids spoke

and I heard them."

This legend or myth?

Sea Goddesses

Water Spirit Legends

sirens

mythical creatures

alive and well

on the shores of Kauai.

This mermaid's love affair

sailors at sea

sings with an island that stands for love.

Out in the middle of the Pacific

it whispers

with every bit of potential

every spiritual lesson

every breath

I could possibly invoke.

Standing on the shoreline

Hanalei, a dragons den

remembering too my lovely Silver Strand.

Treasuring the time

my pencil drawings of dragons

I see

Puff does welcome travelers in.

He hears the longings

of a surfers plea

waves to ride with dolphins

and me.

Wanton cries

I will forever be blessed

by a mountain long and wise.

Legends of Mermaids

lost at sea?

Myths no not ever.

'Tis true these tales

and magic calls

open you heart to see

feel your life

'tis just a breath away.

Sooo Happy Playing.. I ADORE this! - Hey! This could be Y-O-U

~*

This is such a darling little You tube video. It has absolutely nothing to do with me selling my ACEO's on Ebay but really it has everything to do with it because of the fantasy... fantasy fairies and all the magic I hope to create in them.

This is magical. It makes me feel like going out and buying a whole slew of balloon for some reason.

I don't have to understand what they are singing about, although the translation is given... but who cares it is just so happy.

The point is the feeling of Playfulness

I just ADORE it!

My poem about the painting, "I Have Come To Know the Rain"

"I Have Come To Know the Rain"

My unicorn, my legend of pegasus

I climb on your back

my hands reach for your mane

the voyage is set.

I bring flowers

and fairies for comfort

for when my dream feels cold.

I've come to know the rain.

It is not enough to know that I am cleansed by it.

I want to see its breath

hold its message in my hand

lest I fall on other journeys.

I suspect you keep secrets

your words have become mere noise.

I don't believe your magic

just because you scream it.

All the children that I remember visit me.

No matter they are grown

I hear them playing.

Outside there are tokens

still

sunny days to play in.

I miss their laughter.

There are interruptions everywhere

they want to be understood.

I thought they would lie down

give up

but no.

They seem to be weary

but still measuring.

I am inclined to bargain against consequences.

I hold my own image up to the light

I am not as transparent as I thought.

I feel a huge relief

and yet

I am not sure of which foot to start with next.

I will maneuver my aim

invade my own existence

initiate a standard

for taking no prisoners.

I can feel myself still standing

with somber resolve

proclaiming victory over self

but never being clear on the final outcome

none the less.

I saw dolphins fly last night

twas an unusual sight to see.

It seems they had been called upon

to gather tokens from the oceans floor

gather up the magic of a mermaids charm.

'My' mermaids I ask?

Have they left my dream?

It is raining

and yet there are a few birds singing

I sit back

sip tea

and listen for them.

They sing the only words that I can count on.

It is not enough to understand consequences

the moon tells me this is so.

I fold up all prerequisites

put them in a closet

cover them with flowers I have met

and wait

for the shelter of rainy days.

"Lydia and the Swans That Come Round"

Photo of orchid by Dennis G Magnusen ~Copyright 2009

"Lydia and the Swans That Come Round"

Her soul is dark

She pins her dreams out on a clothesline

waiting for the sun to meet her in a closet

to revive unread plans.

I think she wore jasmine in her hair

the last time that I saw her.

I can't remember.

I do remember that the swans came round

scolded me

for not accepting second chances.

Lydia had a box of sequins

that she kept inside her pocket.

She was seen sewing them to the moon

and making requests for sainthood.

I stood there in the glow

and admired her confidence.

I felt jealous of her travels

and her boldness.

She told me later that she saw me

standing in the doorway.

I did not tell her I was waiting for approval.

I keep in contact with her

now and then.

I ask her what to wear

and music she has heard

that I might like.

She always tells me I look best in lavender

but I know that isn't true.

I lost her trust many years ago.

We met at a train station

went on a journey.

We had intentions of creating fresh stories

new swan songs.

Well... she did at least.

I was haunted by a confined mind.

I could not think beyond the mermaid

she held captured in a jar.

I guess I related too much.

I could only think of how to free her.

It doesn't really matter

I say that to myself

as I unfold and refold

the pieces of art we made together.

Lydia's eyes are even darker now

that's the rumor.

Yet I will always admire her

and her quest to capture sparrows

unlocked by wings of depraved

but well meaning caretakers.

Lydia claims she means to heal them.

And the mermaid?

She traveled well.

I bring her jasmine in the summer

and gifts of chocolate and green tea.

I keep sequins in the jar she came in

reminding me of train stations

words that could not find their way

and swans that come round.

The Most Important Thing

Breathe it in and feel the magic of this moment.

It belongs to you.

Thank you once again for visiting my lens.

Aloha, Kathy

Thank You!

Come Fairies

take me out of this dull world,

for I would ride with you

upon the wind and dance

upon the mountains like a flame.

~W.B. Yeats.

The land of Faery,

Where nobody gets old and godly and grave,

Where nobody gets old and crafty and wise,

Where nobody gets old and bitter of tongue.

~William Butler Yeats

Up the airy mountain,

Down the rushy glen,

We daren't go a-hunting

For fear of little men;

Wee folk, good folk,

Trooping all together,

Green jacket, red cap,

And white owl's feather

!

~ William Allingham, The Fairies

Come with us hand in hand

Join us in play and joyous dance

awaken from your dream of worldly worries

now light as a feather

as graceful as autumn leaves falling

hear the child calling

Experience the Fairy Kingdom

~Idunna Elemiah

This is the Fairy land. O spite of spites,

We talk with goblins, owls, and sprites!

If we obey them not, this will ensue:

They'll suck our breath, or pinch us black and blue.

~ William Shakespeare, The Comedy of Errors

(Dromio of Syracuse at II, ii)

Where the bee sucks, there suck I;

In a cowslip's bell I lie;

There I couch when owls do cry.

On the bat's back I do fly

After summer merrily.

~William Shakespeare, The Tempest (Ariel at V, i)

Thank you so much for dropping by!
