Victorian Paintings & a Tea Party

Updated on June 25, 2014

The Victorian Series

I paint in series, anything from realism to impressionism. I painted a series of artwork that I titled "The Victorian Series". They are paintings of beautiful goddess women who I hired to model for me. I rented vintage costumes and set up a tea party with bone china tea cups and a silver tea service. It was a glorious day!

This lens will also offer details for providing a tea party with wonderful treats as well as a poem I wrote.. I am also a poet and sculptor. .

The IMAGE is of my painting "Camile 1" a 20x24 oil on canvas.

NOTE~ Not all of my paintings for this series are posted at this time, but I will post more soon.

Thank you for visiting my lens,

Kathy

A Fantasy Fairies Dream Just Inside a Whisper

by Kathy Ostman-Magnusen

A fantasy fairy whispered in my ear.

She told me a beautiful story.

I envisioned all the flowers

the scent they gave

the pond from where she came.

She had returned for a spell.

A spell on me

perhaps on you.

The mountains of Africa

have always been her home.

She whispered of treasures there.

Lobelia growing on trees

colors everywhere

covering the ground with love.

Exotic animals

stretched out over the landscape

feeling the space of

free horizons

such a beautiful dream.

I whispered back

hesitant at first

but I had questions.

I loved her.

I loved the idea of her

my magic fairy

my fantasy

my humble imagination.

I wondered why

her last visit with me

had been so short.

I barely had time to offer tea

cookies or chocolate.

I had found

charming stories

and saved them inside my pocket

lest she come.

I longed to tell her of their messages

and what they meant to me.

Why couldn't she stay with me always?

I wondered where she came from first.

Was it from a rainbow?

Had she simply appeared one day

after a storm?

Maybe after a storm of mine?

I whispered my questions

she smiled a loving smile at me

but then

she flew away.

I longed with all my heart

to take hold of time.

cradling the flowers she left for me

I bowed my head to weep

My longing not realized

that she stay longer.

I almost wanted to capture her

put her in a jar.

I feel you worried for her now.

Hummm?

No need.

I know what you feel is true

and wise.

As much as I love her

her life is open skies.

She is not mine

nor yours of course.

I hear a whisper in my ear

yet this time

it only comes back as the wind.

I will wait.

I will feel the softness of her.

Ah, she is such a fragile image.

I will drink tea

make cookies for later

and look out on to the sea

from where my fantasy fairy came.

A Fairies Illustration of A Single Drop of Water

by Kathy Ostman-Magnusen

A fantasy fairies illustration.

A single drop of water.

I saw one on canvas.

I have always admired the art

of painting drops of water.

I suppose I could study it.

Look inside its world.

A single drop of water

I saw one on a leaf.

It glistened in the sun

caught a rainbows colors.

I did not touch it

I merely loved its presence.

By noon it will be gone.

A single drop of water

I held one in my hand.

I dipped my finger

into a glass

let wetness touch my skin

then dropped its tiny bead

into my palm.

Twas there it rested

until I wiped it off.

A single drop of water

touched a zillion times ten.

I filled my tub

to drench my body in.

I slipped into the envelope

of closely connected drops

closed my eyes

and felt comfort.

A single drop of water

joined with all its friends.

I stood beside a waterfall.

It spoke of storms past.

My heart accepted its remarks

speaking loudly.

It sees new days

continuing

until the last.

A single drop of water

I am mesmerized.

I am a single human figure

on a planet

here and now

I am not that far away

from the dew on baby roses.

I expect the same miracles.

A single drop of water

our most precious gift.

I am a fierce admirer

and will defend it till the end.

I stand before the ocean

realize its vastness.

I feel so tiny

strain my eyes

as I try so hard

to see it all.

It is a fairies illustration

I suppose

of a single drop of water.

I stand in awe.
